In 2019, John Mueller confirmed that Google uses HTTPS as a light-weight ranking factor.
With the advent of Letsencrypt, SSL certificates are free.
There is no reason to have a website without HTTPS.
It has long been the case that sites lacking HTTPS encryption were at a ranking disadvantage compared to sites with HTTPS encryption.
That disadvantage is now exponentially greater under the current iteration of Google’s search engine algorithm, as Google Chrome has begun marking any site lacking HTTPS encryption as unsafe.
Obviously, a site marked as unsafe is unlikely to perform well in search engine rankings.
