Auckland Link Building Company
Auckland link building that secures placements on New Zealand and international sites your customers actually read. As the country's commercial hub for finance and tech, Auckland brands need authority that carries across national and Pacific audiences, not just local listings.
Real Mojo Dojo clients, on the record.
New Zealand’s most contested search terms.
If a keyword includes the city name, it is probably one of the most competitive terms in the country. The region produced 37.5% of national GDP in the year to March 2025, holds about 227,000 businesses and is home to more than 60% of New Zealand’s top 200 companies. National brands, head offices and well-funded local firms all chase the same results, and many of them have a decade of media coverage behind their domains.
At the same time, the market is small by international standards. Plenty of niches have modest search volumes, and a few strong players can own a category simply because nobody has challenged their backlink profile. That cuts both ways: it takes fewer, better links to change the order, but those links have to come from sources New Zealand editors and searchers respect.
Buyers here lean on trust signals. More than half of New Zealand shoppers look for independent reviews or ratings before buying, and New Zealand retailers took about 80% of online spending in 2025. Coverage in national and regional publications, industry bodies and community sites tells both people and Google that a business is real and established. With 2025 bringing softer conditions and business growth at its slowest since 2012, owners also want every placement to earn its keep.
Link building is one part of our SEO services. We choose the pages that should rank, work out why competitors outrank them, and earn editorial links through outreach, digital PR and content that other sites want to reference. Nothing is sold by the link.
We also run this service nationally: see Link Building New Zealand. The same service is available in Wellington. Related Auckland services include SEO, AI SEO and Enterprise SEO. Browse all Auckland services.

Industries we help in Auckland.
The sectors that generate most of the region’s commercial searches, and what earned authority does for each.
Professional and technical services
The largest industry by GDP and by employment. Lawyers, accountants, engineers and consultants earn links through expert commentary, guides and survey data cited by business media and professional bodies.
Finance and insurance
The biggest single contributor to recent GDP growth, and a category where credibility decides rankings. We place data-led, compliant stories with finance and business titles.
Technology and SaaS
With 108 of the top 200 tech companies nearby, software firms compete for the same buyers. Original research, integration partner pages and founder stories earn links from tech press.
Construction and trades
The second-largest employer at the 2023 Census. Builders and trades earn links from supplier features, industry associations and community sites that point at suburb pages.
Property and real estate services
About 48,000 businesses, the largest group by count. Property managers and agencies stand out with market commentary and local guides that news sites and community pages link to.
Retail and ecommerce
Shoppers check reviews before buying. Online stores earn links from gift guides, product roundups and independent review sites, with campaigns ready before Black Friday and Christmas.

What makes a link worth building.
Not all links help. We check every prospect against the same standards before we pitch it:
- Relevance. The site and the linking page cover a topic close to yours.
- Real audience. The site has genuine readers and visible organic traffic, not just a metric score.
- Editorial placement. The link sits inside useful content and was placed because an editor chose to.
- Indexed and crawlable. The page is in Google's index and the link is a standard link Google can follow.
- Clean neighbourhood. The site does not sell links openly or link out to spam.
- Natural anchor text. Descriptive and varied, never packed with keywords.
Third-party authority scores can help us sort prospects, but we treat them as a filter, not a target. A relevant link on a site your customers read beats a high score on a site nobody visits.
How we earn links.
Six methods, weighted per client. A Wynyard Quarter fintech and an East Tāmaki manufacturer need very different sources.
Digital PR
Data-led stories, expert commentary and campaigns pitched to journalists and editors, earning coverage and links from publications your customers read.
Editorial outreach
Personalised outreach to site owners and editors whose readers would genuinely benefit from your page, with a clear reason to link.
Linkable assets
Research, tools, guides and original data that other sites cite because there is nothing better to point to.
Unlinked mentions and broken links
We find sites that already mention your brand without linking, and dead links that your content can replace, then ask for the link.
Partnerships and industry bodies
Suppliers, associations, sponsors and events that publish member or partner pages, earned through real relationships.
Guest contributions with editorial standards
Expert articles on relevant publications where the link is earned by the quality of the piece, not by a payment.
What each campaign covers.
Scope follows your site, your rivals and the parts of the region you sell into. These are the working parts.
Backlink profile audit. Where your links come from, which are helping, and which carry risk.
Competitor link gap analysis. The sites linking to the pages that outrank you and not to yours.
Target page selection. We prioritise the pages that carry revenue or leads, not just the homepage.
Prospect research. Hand-built lists of relevant sites, checked for traffic, topic fit and real editors.
Linkable asset planning. Ideas for content and data that give sites a reason to link.
Digital PR campaigns. Story angles, media lists and pitching for coverage on relevant publications.
Personalised outreach. Individually written emails and follow-ups, never mass templates.
Anchor text planning. Natural, varied anchors that describe the page instead of stuffing keywords.
Internal linking review. Passing the authority you earn to the pages that need it, working with SEO services.
Link quality checks. Every link reviewed for indexation, placement, attributes and neighbourhood.
Monthly reporting. Links earned, where they point, and the movement in rankings and organic traffic.
Clean-up recommendations. Advice on harmful links, disavow decisions and old paid link schemes.

Reporting and refinement
Monthly reporting on links earned, rankings and organic traffic. We double down on the tactics that move the pages that matter.
Links we will not build.
Google's spam policies define link spam as creating links to or from a site primarily to manipulate search rankings. Its examples include buying or selling links for ranking purposes, excessive link exchanges, links made by automated programs, and large-scale guest posting with optimised anchor text. Those tactics can cost a site its rankings, and the damage is slow and expensive to reverse.
We do not use private blog networks, automated link tools, paid links that pass ranking credit, or link exchange schemes. Where a placement involves payment or sponsorship, it is marked with the appropriate rel attribute. If a site already carries links like these, we will tell you plainly and recommend how to deal with them.
This is the trade we make in your favour: fewer links, each one earned and defensible.
Areas we serve in Auckland.
We work with businesses throughout the region remotely, using video calls and shared reporting. On the central isthmus that includes the CBD, Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Mt Eden, Epsom, Remuera, Newmarket, Parnell, Mt Albert and Onehunga.
Across the harbour we support firms in Takapuna, Devonport, Albany, Silverdale and Orewa. Out west we work with Henderson and New Lynn, in the east with Botany, Howick and Flat Bush, and in the south with Manukau, Papatoetoe, Ōtāhuhu, Papakura and Pukekohe. Because many people search for the North Shore or South Auckland rather than the city, links go to the area pages that match.
Link building results we have published.
Campaigns from our portfolio where earning links was part of the job. They cover different industries and markets, and are shown to explain the approach rather than to promise the same figures.
“Their team understood our business before we even had to explain it. Enquiries are up 250% and the quality is better than ever.”

What is link building?
Link building is the process of earning links from other websites to your own. Search engines treat relevant links from trusted sites as a signal that a page is worth ranking, so a structured link building programme supports rankings for the pages you care about.
Why do backlinks matter for SEO?
Links help search engines find your pages and judge how trusted they are. Content and technical health get a page into contention, and links from relevant, trusted sites often decide who wins a competitive result. Link building works best alongside your SEO services, not instead of it.
How long does link building take to work?
Expect months rather than weeks. Links have to be earned, published, crawled and then weighed by search engines, and the pages they point to have to be strong enough to benefit. We report links earned each month so you can see progress before rankings move.
Is it safe to buy backlinks?
Google's spam policies list buying or selling links for ranking purposes as link spam. Links that involve payment should carry a rel sponsored or nofollow attribute, which means they do not pass ranking credit. We earn links through outreach, digital PR and content, and do not buy links to pass ranking credit.
What is a good backlink?
A good backlink comes from a relevant site with a real audience, is placed inside useful editorial content by a real editor, sits on a page Google has indexed, and uses natural anchor text. One link like that is worth more than dozens from irrelevant directories or networks.
How many backlinks do I need?
There is no fixed number. The right target comes from the sites currently ranking for your keywords: how many relevant sites link to them, and which of those are missing from your profile. We build that comparison in the first phase and set targets from it.
What is the difference between link building and digital PR?
Digital PR is one way of building links. It earns coverage and links from journalists and publications through stories, data and commentary. Link building is the wider discipline and also includes editorial outreach, linkable assets, unlinked mention recovery, partnerships and resource page placements.
Do links still matter for AI search?
Links still shape traditional rankings, and reputable third-party coverage is also the kind of source AI answer engines tend to draw on. We cannot guarantee that any AI tool will cite you. Our AI SEO work looks at how your brand appears in those answers, and link building supports it by strengthening the sites and pages that mention you.
Do you guarantee rankings or a number of links?
No. Nobody controls how search engines rank pages, and a guaranteed number of links usually means links are being bought or manufactured. We commit to the process, the quality standards and the reporting, and we show the effect on rankings, traffic and enquiries.
How do you choose which pages to build links to?
We prioritise the pages closest to revenue or leads, such as service pages, product categories and high-intent content, and we look at where a modest amount of extra authority is enough to move a page onto page one. A few links go to the homepage and to linkable assets to keep the profile natural.
What if my site already has bad or paid links?
We start by auditing your existing profile and check for paid schemes, networks and irrelevant links. Most low-quality links can simply be ignored by Google. If there are signs of a paid link scheme or a penalty risk, we will recommend removal or disavow, and can pair the review with a full SEO audit.
How will I know it is working?
Each month you receive a report showing the links earned, the sites and pages they came from, where they point, and the movement in rankings, organic traffic and enquiries for the target pages. We tie the results to business outcomes rather than to a count of links.
Do you work with Auckland businesses?
Yes, remotely. Planning and progress reviews run on video calls at times that suit New Zealand hours, and a shared report records every link we earn, the page it points to and the ranking change behind it. No site visits are needed at any stage.
Do you target New Zealand publications or international ones?
Both, depending on who buys from you. New Zealand retailers took about 80% of online spending in 2025, so for most businesses national and regional New Zealand sources come first. Exporters and tech firms also need links from international trade and industry titles.
When should a campaign start in the New Zealand calendar?
Most businesses have a 31 March balance date, so B2B budgets and finance searches cluster from February to April. Nearly 30% of online spending falls in the last quarter, and the Lantern Festival in February suits businesses reaching Chinese and wider Asian communities. We plan so links are live before those peaks.
