Link Building Agency in Manchester
Manchester link building that earns coverage on relevant UK publications and industry sites. The Northern Powerhouse is full of ambitious media, music and tech businesses, and the ones building genuine authority are the ones winning national searches from a Manchester base.
Real Mojo Dojo clients, on the record.
Ten boroughs, a quarter of a million companies.
The city region ended 2024 with a record 251,769 registered companies, and 40,892 new ones were formed that year. Every one of those newcomers wants the same page-one positions as the firms already there, and growth has been fastest among the very smallest businesses. In most service categories the result is a long list of similar websites, and the ones that rank are usually the ones other sites have chosen to cite.
The buyers are harder to impress than in most places. The city region has the largest cluster of creative businesses outside the capital, built around MediaCityUK, and a strong advertising and market research base. Marketing managers here know what a bought link looks like. They expect placements they would be happy to show a board, from titles and organisations people in their sector actually read.
It is also ten boroughs rather than one city. Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Stockport produce 68% of the region’s output, while searchers in Bolton, Wigan or Rochdale use their own town names. A business serving the whole conurbation needs links pointing at borough pages as well as the city-centre page, from local news, business networks and community organisations in each area.
We run link building as part of our SEO services. We choose the pages that deserve to rank, study the profiles beating them, and earn editorial links through outreach, digital PR and content with a genuine reason to be cited. Links are never sold from a list.
Looking beyond Manchester? Our Link Building UK page covers the whole country. We also cover London. Related Manchester services include SEO, AI SEO and Enterprise SEO. For the full list, see our Manchester services.

Financial, business and professional services
Around 23% of the workforce in 2020, including thousands of finance and legal firms. We earn coverage in trade titles and professional bodies with commentary, guides and data that partners are proud to share.
Digital, cyber and AI
A £5 billion tech ecosystem, according to GMCA. Software, cyber and fintech firms earn links through original research, integration partner pages and talks that tech media picks up.
Creative, media and advertising
Studios and agencies around Salford Quays pitch to editors who know every trick. Sharp story angles, portfolio features and industry awards coverage earn the links that stick.
Health innovation and life sciences
Clinics, medtech and research firms along the Oxford Road Corridor need links from health bodies, academic partners and specialist publications, never paid health directories.
Advanced manufacturing and materials
More than 500 businesses in advanced materials alone. B2B manufacturers win niche, high-value queries with links from technical journals, supplier pages and trade associations.
Hospitality and the visitor economy
Tourism had a £12.7 billion economic impact in 2023. Hotels, bars and venues time digital PR for the Christmas Markets and September’s student intake, when guides are being written.

What makes a link worth building.
Not all links help. We check every prospect against the same standards before we pitch it:
- Relevance. The site and the linking page cover a topic close to yours.
- Real audience. The site has genuine readers and visible organic traffic, not just a metric score.
- Editorial placement. The link sits inside useful content and was placed because an editor chose to.
- Indexed and crawlable. The page is in Google's index and the link is a standard link Google can follow.
- Clean neighbourhood. The site does not sell links openly or link out to spam.
- Natural anchor text. Descriptive and varied, never packed with keywords.
Third-party authority scores can help us sort prospects, but we treat them as a filter, not a target. A relevant link on a site your customers read beats a high score on a site nobody visits.
How we earn links.
Six methods, weighted per client. A Spinningfields law firm and a Stockport café need very different links.
Digital PR
Data-led stories, expert commentary and campaigns pitched to journalists and editors, earning coverage and links from publications your customers read.
Editorial outreach
Personalised outreach to site owners and editors whose readers would genuinely benefit from your page, with a clear reason to link.
Linkable assets
Research, tools, guides and original data that other sites cite because there is nothing better to point to.
Unlinked mentions and broken links
We find sites that already mention your brand without linking, and dead links that your content can replace, then ask for the link.
Partnerships and industry bodies
Suppliers, associations, sponsors and events that publish member or partner pages, earned through real relationships.
Guest contributions with editorial standards
Expert articles on relevant publications where the link is earned by the quality of the piece, not by a payment.

Links we will not build.
Google's spam policies define link spam as creating links to or from a site primarily to manipulate search rankings. Its examples include buying or selling links for ranking purposes, excessive link exchanges, links made by automated programs, and large-scale guest posting with optimised anchor text. Those tactics can cost a site its rankings, and the damage is slow and expensive to reverse.
We do not use private blog networks, automated link tools, paid links that pass ranking credit, or link exchange schemes. Where a placement involves payment or sponsorship, it is marked with the appropriate rel attribute. If a site already carries links like these, we will tell you plainly and recommend how to deal with them.
This is the trade we make in your favour: fewer links, each one earned and defensible.

What is link building?
Link building is the process of earning links from other websites to your own. Search engines treat relevant links from trusted sites as a signal that a page is worth ranking, so a structured link building programme supports rankings for the pages you care about.
Why do backlinks matter for SEO?
Links help search engines find your pages and judge how trusted they are. Content and technical health get a page into contention, and links from relevant, trusted sites often decide who wins a competitive result. Link building works best alongside your SEO services, not instead of it.
How long does link building take to work?
Expect months rather than weeks. Links have to be earned, published, crawled and then weighed by search engines, and the pages they point to have to be strong enough to benefit. We report links earned each month so you can see progress before rankings move.
Is it safe to buy backlinks?
Google's spam policies list buying or selling links for ranking purposes as link spam. Links that involve payment should carry a rel sponsored or nofollow attribute, which means they do not pass ranking credit. We earn links through outreach, digital PR and content, and do not buy links to pass ranking credit.
How do you win links when buyers here know the marketing industry so well?
By only pitching placements we would defend in front of your marketing team. That means real publications and organisations in your sector, stories with a genuine news angle, and anchor text that reads naturally. If a link would look bought, we do not go after it.
What is a good backlink?
A good backlink comes from a relevant site with a real audience, is placed inside useful editorial content by a real editor, sits on a page Google has indexed, and uses natural anchor text. One link like that is worth more than dozens from irrelevant directories or networks.
How many backlinks do I need?
There is no fixed number. The right target comes from the sites currently ranking for your keywords: how many relevant sites link to them, and which of those are missing from your profile. We build that comparison in the first phase and set targets from it.
What is the difference between link building and digital PR?
Digital PR is one way of building links. It earns coverage and links from journalists and publications through stories, data and commentary. Link building is the wider discipline and also includes editorial outreach, linkable assets, unlinked mention recovery, partnerships and resource page placements.
Do links still matter for AI search?
Links still shape traditional rankings, and reputable third-party coverage is also the kind of source AI answer engines tend to draw on. We cannot guarantee that any AI tool will cite you. Our AI SEO work looks at how your brand appears in those answers, and link building supports it by strengthening the sites and pages that mention you.
Do you guarantee rankings or a number of links?
No. Nobody controls how search engines rank pages, and a guaranteed number of links usually means links are being bought or manufactured. We commit to the process, the quality standards and the reporting, and we show the effect on rankings, traffic and enquiries.
How do you choose which pages to build links to?
We prioritise the pages closest to revenue or leads, such as service pages, product categories and high-intent content, and we look at where a modest amount of extra authority is enough to move a page onto page one. A few links go to the homepage and to linkable assets to keep the profile natural.
What if my site already has bad or paid links?
We start by auditing your existing profile and check for paid schemes, networks and irrelevant links. Most low-quality links can simply be ignored by Google. If there are signs of a paid link scheme or a penalty risk, we will recommend removal or disavow, and can pair the review with a full SEO audit.
How will I know it is working?
Each month you receive a report showing the links earned, the sites and pages they came from, where they point, and the movement in rankings, organic traffic and enquiries for the target pages. We tie the results to business outcomes rather than to a count of links.
Do you work with Manchester businesses?
Yes. We work with firms across Greater Manchester remotely. Planning sessions and monthly reviews happen over video calls, and a shared report shows every link, where it points and the ranking change that followed. You never need to travel to meet us.
Can you build links for borough pages such as Stockport or Bolton?
Yes. Many people search by town rather than by city, so we earn links from local news, business networks and community groups that serve each borough, and point them at the pages written for those areas.
