Adelaide

Paid search in a smaller, closer-knit market.

PPC management means planning, running and improving the ads you pay for per click, on Google, Microsoft, Meta and LinkedIn, and judging them on leads and revenue. In Adelaide that job looks different from the one in the bigger eastern capitals. Greater Adelaide had 1,491,015 residents at June 2025 and 118,344 small businesses in 2023, and 80,353 of those businesses were sole operators. Most local categories are a crowd of very small advertisers, each with a modest budget, sharing an auction with national brands that bid on city-wide terms.

That makes waste expensive. When a plumber in Salisbury or a physio in Norwood can only spend a few hundred dollars a week, a campaign that shows ads to the wrong suburbs or the wrong searches burns the whole month. Buyers here also weigh reputation and clear pricing, and median weekly household income sat at $1,548 at the 2021 Census, below the national figure, so ads that promise vague value tend to lose to competitors that state it plainly.

Growth is uneven, which helps a careful advertiser. The metro area added about 18,600 people in 2024-25, much of it in the outer north and Mount Barker, where new households are still choosing their providers and service-area competition is thinner. We build accounts around that geography and around the few sectors where this city punches above its size, then judge them on cost per lead. To compare paid with organic, read our guide to SEO, PPC and SEM, and see how we pair paid with SEO.

Why accounts underperform

Where PPC budgets leak, and what we do about it.

Six common ways paid budget is wasted, including two we see often in South Australian accounts.

Tracking
Problem

Conversions are counted wrongly

Double-counted form fills, reloaded thank-you pages and missing call tracking make an account look better or worse than it is, and automated bidding then learns from bad data.

Solution

Measurement is fixed first

We audit every conversion action, remove duplicates, add call and form tracking, and feed real lead or revenue value back to the platform where we can.

Search terms
Problem

Ads show for the wrong searches

Broad and phrase match can trigger ads on loosely related queries, so budget goes to clicks that were never going to buy.

Solution

Search terms reviewed continually

We mine search term reports, add negatives, tighten match types and separate brand from non-brand so you can see what new customers really cost.

Geography
Problem

City-wide targeting on a suburb-sized budget

Searchers here name the suburb or region, such as Glenelg, the Adelaide Hills or the northern suburbs. A campaign set to the whole metro area spends small budgets on places the business does not serve.

Solution

Budget split by the suburbs you serve

We map your service area, build location groups for the suburbs and regions that pay, and move spend toward the postcodes where leads turn into jobs.

Landing pages
Problem

Good clicks, poor landing page

Paid traffic sent to a generic or slow page converts badly, and platforms can charge more for a weak landing page experience.

Solution

Pages built for the ad

We match page to message, cut form friction and test variants. See our conversion rate optimisation service.

Seasonality
Problem

The same ads all year in a festival city

Tour Down Under in January, Fringe from February to March and the vintage season each shift demand. Evergreen ads and flat budgets miss the peaks and overspend in the quiet weeks.

Solution

A calendar built into the account

We schedule ad copy, budgets and bid targets around the events that move your category, and test new creative before each peak so it is proven when the traffic arrives.

Reporting
Problem

Reports full of clicks

Dashboards that lead with impressions and clicks hide whether the account is making money.

Solution

Reporting on business outcomes

Reports lead with leads, sales, revenue, cost per acquisition and return on ad spend, with plain commentary on what changed and why.

Industries

Industries we help in Adelaide.

Each sector buys clicks for a different reason, so each gets a different account shape.

01

Health, aged care and allied health

Hospitals and aged care were the two largest employers of metro residents in 2021. For clinics and providers we run tightly geo-fenced search campaigns with call tracking, so bookings are measured, not guessed.

02

Defence and naval shipbuilding suppliers

With submarine construction planned at Osborne, suppliers sell to a small, compliance-heavy audience. We use LinkedIn targeting by company and role plus narrow, exact-match search for capability terms, not broad awareness spend.

03

Space, cyber and critical tech

Lot Fourteen hosts the Australian Space Agency and the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre. Queries in these niches are low in volume, so we bid on precise technical terms and use remarketing to stay in front of long buying cycles.

04

Wine, food and cellar doors

South Australia produced 48% of the national winegrape crush in 2025. We run Shopping and Meta campaigns for direct-to-consumer wine sales and time cellar-door search ads to vintage and autumn visits.

05

Hospitality, venues and events

Visitor spend in South Australia reached $11.5 billion in the year to March 2026. Venues and bars need budgets that rise fast for Mad March and fall back after, which we plan into pacing ahead of time.

06

Builders, trades and property

Construction led the state's growth in 2024-25, up 5.0%. For builders and trades we target the new estates of the outer north with suburb-level search ads and lead forms that qualify the job before you call back.

How PPC advertising works.

Most PPC platforms sell ad space through an auction that runs each time someone searches or scrolls. You choose who you want to reach and what you are willing to pay for a result. The platform then decides whether your ad enters the auction and where it appears.

On Google Ads, position depends on Ad Rank, which combines your bid with the quality of your ad and landing page and the context of the search. That is why the highest bidder does not always win, and why a relevant ad on a fast page can cost less per click than a poor one. Quality Score, a 1 to 10 diagnostic shown in the account, is a useful signal of how well keyword, ad and landing page fit together.

Other platforms work on similar principles with different inputs. Meta and LinkedIn weigh your bid against how likely the audience is to engage. Managing PPC well means knowing what each auction rewards and shaping the account to match. For the biggest platform, see our Google Ads management service.

In depth

PPC and SEO work best together.

Paid search buys speed and control. You can be on page one tomorrow, target exact audiences and switch budgets on and off. Organic search builds an asset that keeps bringing traffic without a cost per click. Each channel makes the other cheaper to run.

Search term data from paid campaigns shows which keywords convert, so we know which pages are worth ranking for. Organic data shows which pages already convert, so we know where paid clicks will land well. Bfree is a good example: running Google Ads management alongside SEO, sales rose 1000% and organic traffic 192%.

If you are deciding where to start, our guide to SEO vs PPC vs SEM sets out the trade-offs, and our SEO service covers the organic side.

Areas

Areas we serve in Adelaide.

We work remotely with businesses right across the metro area and its edges. In the centre that means the CBD, North Adelaide, Norwood, Unley, Prospect and Hindmarsh, plus the innovation precincts at Lot Fourteen, Tonsley and Mawson Lakes.

Along the coast we run campaigns for firms around Glenelg, Marion and Port Adelaide. In the north our clients serve Salisbury, Parafield Gardens, Elizabeth, Munno Para and Angle Vale, while to the east and south the map runs from Modbury and Campbelltown to Stirling, Aldgate, Mount Barker, Noarlunga, McLaren Vale and Aldinga. Each account is targeted to the places where your customers live, not a single circle on a map.

Do you work with Adelaide businesses?

Yes. We manage paid campaigns for South Australian businesses entirely remotely. Kick-off, monthly reviews and strategy sessions happen over video calls, and you can check spend, leads and cost per lead at any time in shared reporting.

What are PPC management services?

PPC management services cover the planning, setup, daily running and reporting of pay per click advertising. That includes keyword and audience research, ad copy and creative, bidding and budgets, tracking, landing page advice and regular reporting, across platforms such as Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Meta and LinkedIn.

How is PPC different from SEO?

PPC buys visibility. You pay per click or action, results start quickly and you control who sees the ad. SEO earns visibility over months and has no cost per click, but takes longer to build. Most businesses do best running both, each informing the other. Our guide to SEO vs PPC vs SEM goes through the trade-offs.

Which PPC platforms should I advertise on?

It depends on where your buyers are and what a customer is worth. Search ads suit people who already know what they want. Shopping suits online stores. LinkedIn suits B2B lead generation. Meta and TikTok suit demand creation and visual products. We recommend a mix after understanding your margins, not a fixed package.

How long does it take to see results from PPC?

Traffic starts as soon as campaigns are approved, but useful conclusions take longer. Platforms need data to learn, so expect the first weeks to be about collecting it and removing waste, with efficiency improving as tests conclude. Linen House cut marketing cost by 40% while paid revenue grew 109%, which is the pattern good management aims for.

How do I know if my PPC campaigns are working?

Judge them on business results: leads, sales, revenue, cost per acquisition and return on ad spend, not clicks or impressions. That only works if conversion tracking is accurate, so we check tracking first. Where possible we tie ad data to real sales or lead quality, not just form fills.

Is a small PPC budget worth it in a market this size?

Often, yes, because many categories here are made up of very small competitors. A modest budget focused on the suburbs you serve, exact search terms and good call tracking can win steady leads. We will tell you plainly if your category needs more spend than you are ready for.

Should I manage PPC in-house or hire an agency?

In-house works when you have someone with the time and platform experience to keep accounts current. An agency suits teams that need specialists across several platforms, fresh testing ideas and reporting that ties spend to revenue. Many businesses start with an agency and bring parts of the work in-house later.

Do you provide PPC audits?

Yes. An audit reviews your account structure, tracking, keywords and search terms, ads, budgets and landing pages, then ranks the fixes by likely impact. See our Google Ads audit, or use the form below to ask for a review.

How do you handle Mad March and other peaks?

We plan them in advance. For venues, hospitality and events we raise budgets and refresh ads before the Fringe season, then scale back when demand drops, so the account does not overspend in the quiet weeks or run out of budget on the busiest days.

What is remarketing and why does it matter?

Remarketing shows ads to people who have already visited your site or engaged with your brand. Most visitors do not convert on the first visit, so remarketing keeps you in front of warmer audiences, usually at a lower cost per conversion than cold traffic. Linen House used remarketing as part of the campaign that grew paid revenue 109%. See our remarketing service.

What should I look for in a PPC agency?

Ask who owns the ad accounts, how conversions are measured, what the reports lead with, and how spend is split by margin. Look for published results in your kind of business, not just headline figures. Be wary of agencies that report clicks and impressions but cannot show revenue or cost per lead.
